Unilight Founder to Receive Icon of Industry Award
March 8, 2012 - 3:18pm

Organizers of the Intl. Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show have announced finalists for the 2009 Gold Key Awards, as well as recipients for this year's Designer of the Year and Icon of Industry awards, which will also be presented during the Nov. 7-10 event in New York City.

Unilight founder Jerry Hruby-Holy will receive the fourth Icon of Industry Award posthumously from NEWH — the Hospitality Industry Network, formerly the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality.

“We are deeply honored to be accepting this award on behalf of Jerry,” says Unilight President Michael Holy. “He considered his customers and industry partners his extended family and would go to great lengths to ensure they were completely satisfied. While the company has evolved over the years to reflect the changes in the hospitality design community, Unilight’s core values have remained the same.”

A $5,000 scholarship in Jerry’s name will be awarded to a student focusing on a career in the hospitality industry.

Alexandra Champalimaud of CHAMPALIMAUD was selected as the 2009 Designer of the Year, an award presented by HOTELS and Interior Design magazines.

The 2009 Gold Key Awards finalists singled out new resorts, restaurants and hotels that embodied compelling yet functional hospitality designs. The awards are bestowed annually to design firms representing the most innovative hospitality properties completed or renovated within the past 18 months.
