A Site to Behold
Laura Van Zeyl

I have great empathy for my manufacturer marketing contacts when they are in the throes of working on a new catalog. It’s similar enough to what we do each month putting together Residential Lighting magazine that I can relate to the process, yet it’s done on such a grand scale that I maintain a healthy awe for their handiwork. The folio size, the print quality and the shelf life increase the pressure for perfection on every page. As a result, I am also sure to comment on a job well done.

Another “shared experience” (ordeal?) I suspect we have all been through at this point is the launching of a new website. Of course, the latest www.ResidentialLighting.com is not the first version of our website, but I say without the least bit of hubris that it is definitely our best. Our social media followers were prompted to get the first peek at our new site when it officially launched last week, and we are humbled by the onslaught of positive feedback that followed.

A clean design and intuitive navigation makes our compelling content easy to find. Another organizational enhancement was the addition of six topical channels collecting news, articles, videos and product features relevant to our most popular subjects: Ceiling Fans, LED, Kitchen & Bath, Outdoor, Decorative and Markets. A fabulous series of Feature Galleries also offers product slideshows that translate our highly visual print experience to the digital space.

This entire undertaking was truly a team effort with a triumvirate of MVPs to thank for their above-and-beyond contributions to the cause: Managing Editor Shanna Casey, Designer Kate Bauer and Senior Web Developer Kevin Herda.

Let me know what you think of the new site. We will continue to refine our approach to ensure that it always serves your evolving needs. But for now, I’m glad to have this project completed so I can return to the relative comfort of my regular deadlines!
