Finalist, Revenue $5 Million+
Meletio Lighting & Electrical Supply

Locally owned and operated for 90 years, Meletio Lighting Electrical Supply prides itself on being a one-stop resource for homeowners, designers and new home builders. The store carries a wide range of decorative lighting fixtures — as well as commercial and electrical supplies, such as recessed and track lighting, and dimming systems.

The showroom likes to say that its service is second-to-none. To that end, the staff is always looking for new ways to improve customer service. Recently, a program called “Meletio at Your Service” was added that allows customers to exchange light bulbs, get help with chandelier installation and cleaning, ceiling fan installation and balancing. Meletio will also install and service smoke detectors.

Every month, the sales staff meets for service seminars. Topics run the gamut from how to properly greet a customer and how to shake someone’s hand in a friendly yet professional manner. Customers receive handwritten thank-you notes that often solicit positive comments about patrons’ shopping experience, but also generate valuable feedback about any negative experiences so the store can be proactive about addressing them.

Employees are also shown gratitude. Recently, a surprise Employee Appreciation Day included gifts, lunch and thank-you notes from the owner on everyone’s cars.

Events for customers take place often. One of the latest examples of this effort provided valuable information on energy-efficient lighting. Sessions were divided into audience segments for builders, designers and homeowners, and more than 80 people attended.
