Lighting One, a national cooperative of independent lighting retailers covering the retail, builder and commercial markets founded in 2001, hosted a successful annual convention during the Winter 2013 Dallas Market.

According to LeAnn Day, Lighting One’s Senior Member Consultant, Lighting One members, suppliers and management felt that this Market was “one of the best.”

The group’s theme for 2013 is “In Full Force” — as in, moving ahead full force in everything they do as a group. Its convention kicked off with a general session during which members were presented with an annual business review. A new product category expansion concept was presented to enable Lighting One members to offer more home décor-related products such as window treatments, kitchen and bath cabinets, vanities and area rugs, which will give them an edge over their competition. Additional educational information on wealth management, tax laws and succession planning was presented, as well as the new Aligned Supplier programs for 2013.

An Awards and Welcome Gala was also held during convention at the Sheraton Dallas. More than 70 member showrooms and 320 industry people attended the event and waved the light sabers handed out to support the “Full Force” theme. Gregg Garofalo, Senior Vice President, even opened the night with a Star Wars-themed video of the history of Lighting One.

Breakfast, lunch and evening receptions held during Market at Quoizel, Uttermost, Kichler, Elk and Artcraft and were also well-attended.

Day says Lighting One has added 27 members in the past two years and that membership now stands at 115 in 153 locations. Additionally, with the Power of Purchasing program, the organization has increased purchases with aligned Lighting One suppliers from 18 to 40 percent in the last year.

2012 was the fourth consecutive year of growth for the cooperative, and according to Garofalo, the group’s benefits and exclusive programs continue to be enhanced.  “The combination of supplier benefits and the national business programs now more than ever helps our members increase profitability to thrive, not just survive.”

Based on its continued momentum and success, Lighting One added Heather Coil to the team to work with the existing membership as a Member Services Coordinator. LeAnn Day was also promoted to Senior Member Consultant to invest her time in growing membership.

“I am excited to continue the expansion of membership,” Day says. “I enjoy being a part of a group that supports the profitability of independent lighting showroom throughout the United States and Canada.”
