Finalists Announced for 2015 Showroom of the Year Awards
August 26, 2015 - 3:04pm
Winners will be honored at an opening night reception during the next Dallas International Lighting Market, 6 p.m. on June 24.

Finalists for the sixth annual Showroom of the Year Awards have been announced. The awards, which honor top lighting retailers, are presented by Residential Lighting magazine and the Dallas Market Center, which hosts the Dallas International Lighting Market twice a year in January and June. This is the premier buying event for the lighting showroom market, and Residential Lighting is the leading trade publication serving this segment.

During the summer edition of the show, which runs June 24-27, 2015, one Showroom of the Year will be named in each of three dollar-volume categories (annual revenue under $2 million, revenue under $5 million, and $5 million and over) from a field of 10 finalists in that category. All finalists are also eligible for three specialty awards: including Outstanding Merchandising Display, Exceptional Community Involvement and Social Media Star.

Once again, 50 percent of the scoring for the Social Media Star Award will be determined by “likes” posted to finalist profiles within the Showroom of the Year Social Media Star Event on Residential Lighting magazine’s Facebook page through May 18 (www.Facebook.com/ResidentialLighting). Official judges’ scores complete the remaining 50 percent of scoring for that category.

Three retail and design experts judged the 2015 finalists and winners. This year’s judges were Chip Averwater, Chairman of Amro Music Stores, Memphis, TN, and author of “Retail Truths: The Unconventional Wisdom of Retailing”; Joan Doyle, Principal/owner of doyle + associates retail consulting firm, Philadelphia, PA; and Snoa Garrigan, Executive Director of the Interior Design Society (IDS), High Point, NC.

All awards will be presented at an opening night reception at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, on the fourth floor of the Dallas Trade Mart (Loft 4 area). All market attendees and exhibitors are welcome to participate in the event with no additional tickets required.

Any independent lighting retailer could enter the competition, and anyone in the lighting industry was also welcome to nominate a store. Entries and nominations were received between Dec. 1, 2014, and March 2, 2015. Entrants and nominees were judged comprehensively on a variety of aspects of their business, including merchandising display, marketing and advertising, customer service and engagement, employee education and motivation, and community involvement.

All of the finalists are profiled in a special section appearing in the May issue of Residential Lighting. The commemorative section will also be distributed as a stand-alone piece at the June Dallas International Lighting Market. Social media coverage before, during and after the awards presentation will feature the hashtag #SOTYAwards.

“It’s a privilege to partner with Dallas Market Center each year to recognize these retailers, who represent the best reflection of our industry,” says Laura Van Zeyl, Publisher and Editorial Director of Residential Lighting. “I continue to be impressed with the creativity and innovation displayed by these showrooms, whose staffs are clearly incredibly passionate about serving customers.”

“The Showroom of the Year Awards is the premier program honoring the best and brightest in the lighting retail industry, and together with Residential Lighting we congratulate each of the finalists,” says Bill Winsor, President and CEO, Dallas Market Center. “We look forward to celebrating their inspirational business achievements in Dallas this June.”
