Fair Share

A couple of weeks ago, I retuned from another excellent Accessories Resource Team (ART) Conference — this one in San Diego. I had the pleasure of seeing a number of lighting showrooms at the event: Black Whale Lighting, Design Lighting, Elements and Light by Design. These stores came to receive and share information from other professionals in the broader home furnishings space.

According to ART Executive Director Sharon Davis, among the positive feedback from the event were requests for more peer roundtables. ART hosts a number of these small-group sessions for stores even outside of its Conference, and we’re proud to partner with them again on our second Showroom IdeaShare for lighting retailers during the upcoming June Dallas Market.

As in our successful January IdeaShare, participants will be able to ask anonymous questions of other retailers at the table and share responses in a group dialogue. One of the twists we are adding this time is to present some of the questions for consideration in advance on the topics of information voids in the marketplace and how stores are promoting (or explaining) LED technology to consumers.

Another new element we’ve added — since we’ve learned that many shared concerns are actually in the hands of vendors to address — is to solicit questions to be taken to manufacturers outside the event for some honest answers. This will elevate portions of the dialogue from being cathartic venting sessions to a productive bridge that will hopefully lead to greater understanding among all parties involved.

Showroom IdeaShare will be held on Friday, June 24, at 3 p.m. in Dallas World Trade Center 166. And although I would strongly encourage any retailer to consider ART membership, it is not required for participation here. But space is limited, so you must pre-register by e-mailing Sharon or me. I hope to see you there, and I hope to see you share!
