A Big Deal in Big D
Laura Van Zeyl

I’ve borne witness to a lot of growth at the Dallas Market over the years, from adding the fourth floor of the Trade Mart as part of the show to expanding that building a good deal east overall, and this upcoming event feels like it promises just as much newness and excitement as those major milestones in market history.

The construction activity that has been underway in anticipation of Jan. 19-23 is significant. Several showrooms will be bigger (Cal Lighting TM 4323, Elegant Lighting TM 3050, Eurofase TM 4002, Feiss/Monte Carlo Fan Co. TM 4010, Hinkley Lighting/Fredrick Ramond TM 3210, Lite Source TM 4804, Quoizel TM 3200, Worldwide Lighting TM 3420). Others have been on the move (Adesso TM 4906, Bethel Intl. TM 3220, Edge Lighting TM 4515, Northeast Lantern TM 3800, Preciosa TM 3935, Varaluz TM 4507). And even many of those holding their ground are making massive changes to their spaces for a fresh face. Add to that the real reason we’re all there — the high quantity and quality of the product introductions showcased — and attending this particular market becomes imperative.

Recent company news and invitations received further increase the anticipation. Craftmade will be joining sister Litex lines Ellington and Jeremiah in TM 4902. Feiss and Monte Carlo Fan Co. will unveil their complete rebranding efforts amidst a new combined showroom in TM 4010 that’s state-of-the-art. And just below in TM 3210, Hinkley Lighting and Fredrick Ramond have their own elegant overhaul to show off during a Friday night party to celebrate Hinkley’s 90th anniversary.

Even the ARTS Awards are new and improved, bringing their Swarovski Elements-studded glory to the Hilton Anatole on Saturday, with a preview party on Friday night in WTC 554.

Between the “oohs” and “aahs,” I do hope retailers will still make time to participate in our popular Showroom IdeaShare, a roundtable session on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. in the Accessories Resource Team (ART) office in WTC 166. Space is limited, so advance registration is required. E-mail me or ART Executive Director Sharon Davis to reserve your spot.

I hope to see you there. I’m certain we’re going to be talking about this one for a long time to come.
