The 2013 Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Outdoor Design Competition was officially launched on July 8. Written Intents to Submit are due by Sept. 20, 2013, and must be submitted online at www.ngldc.org.
Final submission forms are due by Oct. 11, 2013, and physical product samples are due by November 1. Judging takes place in December, and results will be announced in February 2014.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the International Association of Lighting Designers, and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, NGL recognizes and promotes excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED commercial lighting luminaires, based on the market's critical concerns about product performance and quality.
Judges examine lighted samples in their intended applications, as well as photometric analyses and other documentation. Products will be reviewed on criteria such as quality and quantity of illumination, energy efficiency and serviceability. Application criteria such as mounting height, spacing and uniformity are also specified to provide additional guidance on submissions. Products meeting the judges' diverse criteria are recognized, and from this group additional awards are given.
Awards are presented to all distinguished products, and the results—including manufacturers' identities, product descriptions, testing details, and judging comments—are published by NGL via print and Web.
