Residential Lighting Publisher/Editorial Director Laura Van Zeyl (left) presented the 13th annual Residential Lighting Industry Leadership Award to WAC President Shelley Wang during a Sept. 14 lunch session at the American Lighting Assn. (ALA) Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
Wang spearheaded the ALA Young Executives Task Force with Fanimation President Nathan Frampton, aimed at providing networking opportunities and an idea exchange for the lighting industry’s incoming generation. She is also active in the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the National Assn. of Electrical Distributors (NAED), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North American (IESNA) and the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH). In addition, she serves on the Board of the New York Asian Women’s Center (NYAWC), which helps Asian women and their children overcome domestic violence.
At WAC, Wang rebranded the company earlier this year under the Responsible Lighting tagline, which emphasizes its dedication to energy-efficient products as well as sustainable manufacturing practices.
The Residential Lighting Industry Leadership Award recognizes individuals who exemplify leadership and service to their organizations and the industry at large. Nominees appeared in the May 2009 ALA Conference Preview issue of Residential Lighting magazine, and readers determined the winner by popular vote. Past recipients include Fredrick Ramond founder Fred Glassman and Generation Brands Executive Vice President Susan Solomon-Auerbach, who was inducted into the Lighting Hall of Fame at this year’s ALA Conference.
