Top 100 Products of 2005-2006
| As editors, we are consistently thrilled and sometimes astonished to discover which luminaires appear in our annual “Top 100,” a list of the products featured on the pages of this magazine over a 12-month period that inspired the most reader requests for more information. This year, our reaction was no different. While a few of the top-rated trends were more predictable—wild, whimsical finds from the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and European markets, forest-inspired, organic portables and lacy laser cutouts—surprisingly, it was LEDs that piqued the most interest among you, our audience, between October 2005 and September 2006. Though relatively new to residential applications and slow to attract mass-market appeal, LEDs are gradually asserting their energy-efficient presence as novelty accent lights and candle substitutes. And judging by your response to our LED features, the future-friendly lights are here to stay. Between an attraction to alternative sources of illumination and an infatuation with the avant-garde, you are seemingly looking beyond the usual suspects for newer and fresher design that treats your mind as much as your eyes. If you missed these gems the first time around, or if you’re just as curious as we were to find out what made the cut, here’s a second (and in some cases a third) look at the products that you loved from last year. Scroll down for the list, presented in alphabetical order. |
| The Top Four Bright, colorful and cool to the touch, LEDs are making quite a splash in the residential market as of late, thanks to novelties that are light on the environment but heavy on style. Signifying a trend in widespread curiosity about the new technology, LED products swept the top four spots on our Top 100 list, and, in fact, all eight of the solid-state stunners in our October 2005 feature “Get the LEDs Out” made the lineup. |
