Finalist, Revenue Under $2 Million
United Lighting Co.
United Lighting opened its doors in 1963. When its founder died in the late 1990s, the company experienced some hard times. Then, in 2007, the current management team took over, and the company has been growing ever since.
Over the past 12 months, the company has made several improvements to emphasize and improve every aspect of its business. The store got a complete facelift that gave it a fresh, modern look. The update encouraged customers old and new to come take a look, and annual sales increased 17 percent.
To satisfy a wider variety of lighting needs, the store’s management has incorporated more product lines into its mix. To support these new items, special training seminars by the new vendors took place at the showroom. The sales team became quickly familiar with the new lines available during these sessions.
Showroom Manager Rebecca Williams says she feels that every showroom “needs to tell a story.” In her own showroom, Williams uses a setting, accessories, color, different types of fabrics and — of course — beautiful lighting to tell a “story” her customers will enjoy. A new crystal chandelier display allows customers to mix and match crystal colors, finishes and more.
