Restoration Lighting Gallery
When Hartford-area residents want unique lighting, Restoration Lighting Gallery almost invariably comes to mind. Restored vintage and one-of-a-kind lighting fixtures, portable lamps and accessories represent 70 percent of the store’s products. The balance of the merchandise is custom-made and reproduction lighting from major American and European brand names.
The store’s make-to-order service is rare in today’s marketplace. The company can create or modify any light. While custom shades can be ordered, more than 1,000 shades are on display in the store, too. A favorite slogan reminds customers that when they come to Restoration, “your imagination is the only limitation.”
“We aren’t just a store for lights and lamp shades; we are our customers’ friend in the lighting business,” says the store’s entry. Every aspect of the sale is important. Packages are carried out to the car. Purchases are followed up with a handwritten thank-you note.
When it comes to relationships with its customers, the showroom is a big business that acts like a mom-and-pop operation. Yet it wins large projects as well. Recently, the company completed a retrofit project at Union Station, Hartford’s 121-year-old train station. A dozen main ceiling fixtures — custom-designed and made in America for the project — feature LED lamps.
