Visiting Lightology’s 20,000-square-foot lighting showroom is not a shopping trip; it is an experience from the moment you set foot in the door. A three-story atrium provides an open, airy atmosphere for viewing lighting fixtures. Permanent displays of Light Art, and educational displays on topics such as color temperature and lamp technology bring to mind a museum. The Morpheus Room is an all-white space that envelops visitors in changing colors and lighting effects. A rooftop deck presents the latest ideas in outdoor lighting against the breathtaking backdrop of downtown Chicago.
Whether fixtures are destined for a home, office, restaurant or other place of business, the lighting experts on staff aim to help all customers understand the intricacies of lighting design and the significant impact it can make. With an average tenure of 10 years, most on the staff are ALA Lighting Specialist-certified, and a few are CLC®s. Twice a month, the showroom staff meets to recognize achievements, focus on goals and receive new product training. Working at Lightology is a career, not a job. This past year, every employee made a commitment to focus, work hard and help the business survive an especially tough year.
Management has shifted with the times, too. It has found new, lower-priced vendors that carry comparable quality and design. The company has found social media to be an effective, low-cost way of reaching customers. A video of The Morpheus Room posted on YouTube has had nearly 38,000 views.
