Finalist, Revenue Under $5 Million
Champlain Valley Electric
Champlain Valley Electric’s business mission is deceptively simple: “Provide our customers with prompt, courteous service, superior product knowledge and quality products at a competitive price.” It’s hard work to be the best, yet that is the goal at this 4,500-square-foot showroom.
Unique displays and superior product knowledge set the company apart. By providing consultation services and specifying the right products from the outset of a project, it aims to provide the “perfect lighting fit 100 percent of the time.” Customers often bring in fabric, countertop samples and the like so staffers can help coordinate their rooms.
With business slow, the store used the time to identify and utilize computer-generated inventory analysis systems to determine which products are producing adequate profits. New product opportunities were also discovered. The warehouse was revamped to more accurately accommodate “just in time” ordering and automated inventory processes.
Champlain Valley gets the most bang for its advertising bucks from television. Even though it is expensive, the broadcast ads reach viewers beyond the immediate market. A planned redo of the company’s website this year should draw an even wider audience.
