The American Lighting Association  (ALA) has hired Michael Weems as Vice President of Government Affiars. He will begin his duties June 16, 2014 and replaces Justin Neumann, who was only with ALA for a short time.
Weems comes to ALA from the office of Congressman Joe Barton (TX-6), where he has worked since 2005. His most recent position, which he has held since 2009, was the key role of Legislative Director.
Through his work in Barton’s office, Weems gained extensive experience in legislative matters, particularly in the area of energy and commerce. As legislative director, he served as the primary liaison between Barton’s office and the House Energy and Commerce Committee, of which Barton is the Chairman Emeritus. During his time on Barton’s staff, Weems was involved in all legislation related to eneregy efficiency and development. He has an in-depth knowledge of the internal workings of Washington, D.C., and the necessary skills to help ALA advance industry matters.
Weems was a top candidate in the running for ALA’s Vice President of Government Affairs since the job was originally announced.
