I have this fantasy that our readers eagerly scour their mail with each new month’s arrival in anticipation of the latest issue of Residential Lighting. Even if that’s not actually the case, I wanted to give everyone a heads up that they will receive our September 2013 issue later than usual. Do not be alarmed; we have a good reason.
Since the inception of the Lighting for Tomorrow competition, our September issue has carried exclusive print coverage of the winners. We approached organizers about allowing this early on to enable a timely high-profile showcase of the best new options in energy-efficient lighting. The winners would be announced at the American Lighting Assn. (ALA) Conference and then seen immediately on our pages instead of waiting like other post-Conference coverage. The caveat is that we’d have to embargo the issue until the official announcement was made.
This year’s ALA Conference in Austin, TX, doesn’t kick off until Sunday, Sept. 22, with the Lighting for Tomorrow awards program actually happening on Tuesday morning, Sept. 24. True to our word, despite the late dates, we’re holding off on releasing our September issue in print or digital form until that time. The value of the information about these LED fixtures, lamps and controls — plus brand-new recognition for OLED designs — outweighs the delay’s downside, in our view. I hope you agree. And in the meantime, thanks for your patience!
