The American Lighting Association has launched an e-newsletter to offer design tips and product news to consumers. A concept generated by the American Lighting Association’s Public Relations Committee during sessions held at January’s Dallas Market, the project (dubbed “Bright Ideas”) directly reaches out to the folks that fuel demand for high-end lighting.
“We wanted to develop a consumer-oriented newsletter to promote lighting and other popular items around the home,” explains Larry Lauck,
Vice President of Communications for the American Lighting Association.
To add editorial credibility to the new product, the American Lighting Association tapped Kelly Roberson, editor of the American Lighting Association and Better Homes & Gardens SIPs’ joint publishing project Lighting magazine (formerly Simply Perfect Lighting), to helm the e-publication.
Part of the newsletter’s appeal is its marketability. Lighting showrooms will be able to craft personalized versions of the e-mail by adding their logo to the masthead. This gives local lighting showrooms a national reach, says Lauck.
"We provide content that [retailers] could never have the resources to put together [on their own],” he says. “We’ll then make the newsletter available for retail showrooms who support the American Lighting Association, to take it and distribute it to their customers.”

American Lighting Association President, CEO honored
American Lighting Association President and CEO Dick Upton received the Life Member Award from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) at the organization’s annual convention earlier this month. The prestigious accolade honors retired ACCE members from around the country who displayed exemplary service to their local chambers during their tenure.
Over the course of Upton’s 48 years as a chamber executive, he held positions in Clinton, IA; Dubuque, IA; Wichita, KS; Dallas and Minneapolis. These efforts saw Upton involved in many different areas of government, including community development, transportation and economic development. He joined the American Lighting Assocation in 1994.
