The American Lighting Assn. (ALA) [1] will have a delegation of 11 members from its Government Affairs Committee in Washington, D.C., from March 19 to 22. They will meet with the Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency and Alliance to Save Energy, plus the nine members of Congress ALA supports through the ALA Political Action Committee.
The top issues are:
1. Requiring internet retailers to charge, collect and remit sales tax.
2. Reducing the cost of third-party testing for ENERGY STAR-qualified products.
3. Supporting controls to become ENERGY STAR-qualified products.
4. Mitigating the tax increase that was recently imposed on sub-S corporations, which impacts a number of ALA members.
The committee will also participate in a DOE hearing that will be considering new efficiency requirements on ceiling fans.
