At the summer Las Vegas Market , International Market Centers (IMC) unveiled a three-phase plan for its beleaguered Building C to bolster its growing Gift + Home marketplace. Kicking off in 2013 and continuing through the following year’s summer edition, the plan aims to create a thriving gift, home and lifestyle buying platform for the Western United States, including offering underserved categories in the region, such as tabletop.
The building has seen its share of changes since opening in July 2008 with a performance by Rod Stewart, including an attempt to promote its 10th floor as a dedicated lighting destination. Many of those exhibitors have already relocated to accessory-focused floors of the other two buildings in the complex.
The first phase of the new plan will launch in January 2013 with dedicated home décor and home textiles exhibitors on the third floor of Building C. This builds on the success the market realized at this most recent show with a revamped third floor of the adjoining Building B, which featured a stunning presentation of like resources.
Building C’s fourth and fifth floors will also feature home décor and textiles. Plans for other new floors include a lifestyle collection on the 10th floor, gourmet, kitchen and tabletop on the 11th floor and temporary exhibits on floors 12, 13 and 14. The top two floors of the building will continue to showcase furniture.
The Las Vegas Design Center , which currently occupies the first floor of Building C as well as lower floors of Building A, will remain and expand in A. In summer 2013, Building C’s first floor will become c-ONE, a mix of temporary and permanent spaces encompassing tabletop, accessories and other home categories.
"The repurposing of our campus is all about making it easy to find what's new, efficiently and effectively," says IMC CEO Robert Maricich. While coordinating similar product categories together on the same floors will help buyers find what they are looking for, he says expanding the market's offerings also assists the increasing cross-selling trend for all types of retailers.
To underscore the rollout of the Building C plan, IMC also announced the launch of a new Gift + Home CEO Summit to take place Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2013, on the last two days of the Las Vegas Market. The event is geared toward owners, CEOs and Presidents of gift and home businesses and will address financial, operational and global issues affecting the industry.
IMC presented its Las Vegas Market show dates for the next two years, committing to a 2014 schedule that respected other major events in the gift and home space, such as the New York Intl. Gift Fair , which has sometimes run concurrently with Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Market dates for 2013 are Jan. 28-Feb. 1 and July 29-Aug. 2. In 2014, the show will take place Jan. 27-31 and July 28-Aug. 1.
