Our expert, Randall Whitehead, IALD, gives his tips on educational resources to further your lighting knowledge.
Question:
I’m new to the lighting sales world. What can I do to further my knowledge of lighting so I can help my customers with their lighting needs?
Continuing education is a big part of the business, especially as we are being introduced to alternative light sources. One of the best places to get a whole bunch of education is at Lightfair which happens every year. They offer a ton of courses and seminars. It would be we worth attending — this year’s event is May 17-19 in Philadelphia — and hopefully your employer would cover the cost, or at least part of it. A well-educated salesperson is worth the investment.
Did I mention my book, “Residential Lighting, A Guide to Beautiful and Sustainable Design”? It is filled with room-by-room applications, photos and diagrams. Plus, it is perfect lower lumbar support on long plane rides — like maybe to Philadelphia.
