Karen Ritter, veteran sales representative for Meyda Lighting, died Oct. 18 at the age of 49.
Ritter started out as a Meyda customer before becoming a sales representative for the company in the early 1980s. Since then, she served as the Northeast Regional Sales Manager and was responsible for the company’s consignment program. In addition, Ritter — along with her husband, Bob — managed Meyda’s fleet of mobile showrooms in the Northeast for the past 15 years.
Meyda President Robert Cohen describes Ritter as a creative and hard-working person who “always kept you on your toes.”
“We used to have these great sparring contests, and she was great to spar with,” Cohen says. “She would defend her point of view to no end. She had a lot of gumption.”
Outside of work, Ritter enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and cooking. She also spent a great deal of time raising funds for the Southern Delaware Therapeutic & Recreational Horseback Riding (SDTRHR) organization, which provides horseback riding and other services to children with special needs.
Ritter is survived by her husband; her two sons, Joseph and Robert; and her daughter, Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SDTRHR, P.O. Box 219, Nassau, DE 19969, or to her local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
