KBL Design Center recently finished turning an eyesore of a building into a multi-million dollar lighting and home décor showroom. The new store, which opened earlier this summer, will have a grand opening celebration this fall to coincide with KBL’s 25th anniversary.
General Manager Kevin Anderson says KBL purchased the building in Normal, IL, last November and had invested $2 million in the 21,000-square-foot showroom by the time renovations were completed in May.
“It was a terrible looking building that everyone in Normal hated, but we took it and renovated it and completely turned it around,” says Anderson.
The showroom contains 4,000 lighting fixtures on display from about 30 vendors. The store also sells kitchen cabinets, fireplaces, furniture, art and accessories. Grills and patio furniture are displayed outdoors in a 2,000-square-foot “outdoor patio and landscape lab.”
“We don’t want the sale to end with kitchen cabinets," says Anderson. "We want to have people keep coming back.”
Even though the showroom opened earlier this summer, KBL plans to celebrate the grand opening this fall, at the same time as its 25th anniversary in September.
