More than 2,600 lighting designers, manufacturers and specifiers will have a chance to learn more about the newest in lighting technology at the 12th annual Strategies in Light conference, Feb. 22-24 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Vrinda Bhandarkar, conference co-chair and Director of Research, LED Lighting with Strategies Unlimited, says the conference is divided into two tracks – one about high-brightness LEDs for things like TVs, cell phones and traffic lights, and one geared specifically toward LED lighting.
“We added the lighting track in 2009, because as the technology has progressed, we wanted to make it more and more accessible to designers,” Bhandarkar says.
The keynote speaker for the lighting track is designer Patricia Glasow, who has extensive LED design experience. Other lectures will focus on how to retail LED products and LED dimmers for energy conservation.
“We want to educate designers and lighting community about this new technology,” Bhandarkar says. “The idea is to make an intelligent choice in lighting, and depending on the application, whether it is appropriate or not.”
The conference also includes a showroom floor for lighting and component manufacturers. This year, the activities on the show floor will emphasize education, Bhandarkar says, including issues like the basics of solid-state lighting, testing and color quality issues.
The Next Generation Luminaires awards, which recognize excellence in LED commercial lighting design, will also be presented during the conference. The awards are sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, the International Assn. of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
