Innovation Awards Presented at Record Lightfair

A record-breaking 23,000 lighting professionals attended the 20th anniversary of Lightfair Intl. at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, according to show organizer AMC Inc. The show also encompassed its largest square footage ever: more than 170,000 square feet featuring 475 exhibitors.

Not surprisingly, LEDs took center stage at the show, from the chips themselves to applications in light sources and fixtures.

Technical advances in a variety of categories were recognized at the Lightfair Innovation Awards, presented on May 5. From 218 submissions of products introduced in the previous 12 months, the 2009 LIA winners were:

Most Innovative Product of the Year: Calculite Solid-State Downlights by Lightolier/Philips

Design Excellence Award: kite by PEERLESS from Acuity Brands Lighting

Technical Innovation Awards: LUXEON Rebel ES from Philips Lumileds Lighting Co. and SST-90-W by Luminus Devices

Judges Citation Award: LM-80-08 Approved Method for Measuring Lumen Maintenance of LED Light Sources from the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)
