How to Light a Vaulted Ceiling
Layering the lighting will optimize the architecture.

Another creative way to illuminate a vaulted ceiling: Edge Lighting's Soft Line LED lighting system is a suspended aluminum channel with a 3079K, 2700K or RGB Soft Strip.
We have vaulted ceilings and will install indirect lighting along the perimeter to illuminate them. Our designer wants to hang a pendant fixture from the center of the vaults. We feel that this will visually fight the architecture. What do you think?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the lighting. I'm totally on board with showing off those wonderful vaulted ceilings. So many times we have projects that have simple, flat ceilings throughout. I see this as a lost architectural opportunity. I think that the pendant addition is a good one.

When different types of lighting are layered together, it's like the secret sauce to good design. By layering task, accent, decorative and ambient light together, you can create an environment that welcomes visitors into the space, while providing usable light for day-to-day activities.

A pendant can serve more than one function. For example, even if most of the light is reflected up to provide ambient light, some of the illumination backlights the bowl to create a decorative effect.
