History Book Bolsters ALA Education Efforts

The American Lighting Assn.’s Education Foundation received a major boost at the June Dallas Market thanks to a new coffee table book that chronicles the history of the chandelier. Commis-sioned by Savoy House and featuring original photography by photojournalist Kerri McCaffety, The Chandelier Through the Centuries: A History of Great European Styles was available at market to lighting show-room buyers who donated at least $50 to the ALA’s foundation.

In addition to raising money for the foundation, the publishing project also serves as an educational tool about period lighting for Lighting Consultant certification.

“In the past, the industry has lacked proper funding to educate our Lighting Consultants at the retail level,” says Troy Lee, Savoy House President. “Through the proceeds and use of this book, we hope to provide [consultants] with the opportunity to expand their know-ledge, better serve their customers and benefit the lighting industry as a whole.”

Those who missed the book at June’s market can still receive their complimentary copy by contacting the ALA at (800) 60-LIGHT and making the appropriate donation.
