Fanimation, a manufacturer of ceiling fans based in Zionsville, IN, opened a new West Coast distribution center in early June with the goal of better serving customers.
The facility, located in Azusa, CA, allows the company to drastically reduce delivery times to customers in that region, while also providing peace of mind to its Southern California dealers in the form of back-up inventory, says Fanimation President Nathan Frampton.
“The goal is to better serve our customers on the West Coast by speeding their shipping times,” Frampton says. “The end user is wanting everything faster and we want to be able to get products into the hands of end users as quick as possible. It’s all about speed.”
Opening a second distribution center in California simply made sense from a logistics standpoint, as much of its containers come in from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. Before opening the new facility, the inventory had to be shipped to Indianapolis, only for some to be sent back to California for retail sale.
Fanimation has more than 200 retailers in the region. “It gives our dealers the ability to not carry as much inventory. They can rely on us to stock inventory now,” Frampton adds.
About 95 percent of the company’s product will be represented in the West Coast warehouse, including all the bestsellers, he says.
So far, their customers have reacted well to the news, especially retailers who are optimistic that the convenience of having a distribution center in the area might help them close more sales with interested customers.
“When a customer comes in and they see a fan, it helps if the retailer can say, it’s only a day away or we have it in stock, instead of having to wait for it to be shipped from Indiana,” Frampton says. “People are excited. We’ve definitely gotten a great reception.”
