Crystal Clear Home Leaves Lighting Market
 

Seasoned accessories and giftware manufacturer Crystal Clear Home recently announced that it will exit the lighting industry at the end of the year. The company has been manufacturing lighting since 1969 and was one of the first to introduce affordable crystal portables and fixtures to the marketplace.

Crystal Clear’s decision to discontinue its lighting lines was based on several factors, including the industry trend to relocate production abroad—to the Far East in particular—as well as rising production costs.

“As lighting manufacturing has steadily moved overseas, it’s become increasingly difficult for U.S.-based manufacturers like Crystal Clear to stay competitive,” says Brian Lefkowitz, Executive Vice President of Corporate Operations at Crystal Clear Home. “Increased cost of goods, overhead, a more price-conscious consumer, rising fuel costs—all of these factors contributed to the decision to exit the business.”

 Instead, Crystal Clear will focus on its more lucrative gift, decorative accessories and dinnerware businesses constituting the company’s Crystal Clear, Fifth Avenue Crystal, Design Guild, Medallion and American Atelier brands. To help service these lines, Crystal Clear recently opened a new, state-of-the-art warehouse in Edison, NJ.

“The decision [to exit lighting] will allow us to focus all of our resources on our existing brands,” Lefkowitz says. “We are all very excited about the recent changes and very optimistic about our future.”

According to Lefkowitz, both the Crystal Clear and Fifth Avenue Crystal brands saw their last lighting launch at the 2006 June Dallas Market. The company will complete all orders that have previously been placed until the lighting divisions close their doors later in the year.
