Are There High-Output LED Light Bulbs With Warm Color?
Our expert weighs on on whether there are LED replacement bulbs with high lumen output but also warm color temperature.

Is there an LED A-lamp out there that produces 90W worth of light and has the color temperature of an incandescent?

I wish! Presently the only LED lamp I know of that will be able to produce the equivalent of 90W of incandescent light is made by Switch Lighting. It's called the Switch 100. It is 4100K, though, which is a very cool light compared to 2700K, which is the color of incandescent light at full capacity. This lamp is not yet been released to the public. You can sign up on the company's website to receive an e-mail when they are available for purchase.

I did see information about an LED A-lamp made by LEDnovation. The literature says that it does provide 100W equivalent illumination for 10.2W worth of power consumption. It is 2700K, but it does say that it is specifically designed for downlight applications. I’ve not tested it personally, but I will happily accept a sample from the company … along with a bag of cash.

For now, it is easier to find a compact fluorescent that has the lumen output in the color temperature you want, but you will have to live with the soft-serve ice cream look of a CFL. It will take a little more time for LED versions to get there.
