Annapolis Lighting recently opened its third location after acquiring a former Burgess Lighting showroom in Fairfax, VA. Annapolis Lighting is a subsidiary of Colonial Electric Co., which also has another retail division called Bright Light Design Centers.
Dave Bellwoar, owner of Colonial Electric, says Annapolis is in the process of re-organizing the new showroom and adding $250,000 in new products. He also plans to expand services for interior designers, custom builders, architects and other professionals, in addition to adding the lamp repair service and lamp shade division that Annapolis is known for.
“When we put the name Annapolis up there, people seem to recognize it,” he says. “People have come in for lamp repair and shades, and it’s nice to see that people are recognizing the name and know what we stand for.”
Annapolis is also retaining and re-training employees of the former Burgess store for the new showroom.
Bellwoar says the new showroom has undergone a transformation in order to focus on more high-end design business rather than large project work.
“We’ve been getting a very good reception so far,” he says. “It’s not the same target market as before. Now we have a new salesperson who goes around to these professional meetings and tells people about our new location.”
Colonial Electric is also relocating the original Bright Light Design Center in Wilmington, DE, to a new 8,000-square-foot showroom, and although Bright Light and Annapolis are keeping their separate names, they now have a combined logo. Bellwoar says both Bright Light and Annapolis are doing well, with a combined expected gross sales this year of $10 million.
