The American Lighting Assn. (ALA) presented its Pillar of the Industry Awards during the closing gala at its 2011 Conference at the Breakers in Palm Beach, FL, on Sept. 13. The awards recognize up to three ALA members (one sales representative, one showroom and one manufacturer) for their work to advance the industry and the association during the previous 18 months.
This year’s honorees were Jim Decker, Vice President of Brand Management at Progress Lighting; Fred Fennell, Owner of Fennell Marketing and Sales; and Larry King (pictured), President and Owner of Capital Lighting.
Decker, the manufacturer honoree, was chosen for his leadership in developing the lighting industry’s first product data standard. He has also been active in ALA on the Finance committee, Governors Nominating committee and Electronic Technology committee.
Fennell, this year’s manufacturer’s rep honoree, has given a great deal of his time to ALA, as the chair of the Canadian Government Affairs Task Force and the past chair of the ALA Board of Governors. He has also served on the Long Range Conference committee and the Manufacturer’s Representative Steering committee.
King, the 2011 showroom award winner, has been influential in revitalizing ALA’s education efforts, including transitioning to online webinars and developing the Certificate Specialist monograph series. King is also the chair of the Education Foundation Board of Trustees and the foundation’s Nominating Committee.
