  • SGC Acquires Vance Decor Brands

    April 20, 2010

Scranton Gillette Communications (SGC), publisher of Residential Lighting and Hospitality Lighting magazines, has acquired the assets of the former Décor Division of Vance Publishing Corp.

The acquisition includes all of the assets related to Furniture Style magazine, including Home Fashion Forecast, and Design & Décor magazine (formerly Accessory Merchandising).

In March 2009, SGC, headquartered in Arlington Heights, IL, acquired Décor titles Residential Lighting and Hospitality Lighting from Vance and launched its Design Group.

“Scranton Gillette is committed to the home furnishings industry, and the Vance Décor assets will allow us to grow our Design Group to serve that market more thoroughly,” says SGC President and CEO Edward S. Gillette. “We plan to relaunch some of the brands to suit the new realities of the market with digital and print products. Our mission is to be the preferred integrated media vehicle of the home furnishings industry, dedicated to generating compelling content that connects manufacturers to retailers, specifiers and designers.”

SGC’s robust digital capabilities, and strengths in events and custom media, enhance a core team with more than one half-century of combined home furnishings industry experience. Residential Lighting’s Publisher and Editorial Director Laura Van Zeyl and Harry Urban, vice president, are spearheading product development within SGC’s Design Group. Both had previously held long-time leadership positions within the Vance Décor Division. Sherwin Horowitz, the advertising sales representative for SGC’s lighting titles, is another seasoned veteran who solidifies the company’s expanding Design Group.

“We have been able to leverage Scranton Gillette’s print, digital and creative strengths to grow Residential Lighting in a down economy,” says Urban. “We intend to continue this growth in other areas of the home furnishings industry. Furniture Style, Home Fashion Forecast and Accessory Merchandising will serve as the foundation upon which we will continue to grow our Design Group,” he said.

SGC is a 104-year-old business-to-business publishing company, with publications and other media serving a variety of industries.
