  • Fifth Pinnacle Award for Hubbardton Forge

    November 16, 2009

Stylish and innovative design earned 15 trailblazing designers of products and collections, including lighting, nods from the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD). during a gala at the October International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC.

The Pinnacle Design Achievement awards were created in April 1995 by the Board of Directors of the ASFD to promote better design quality and encourage the recognition of furniture designers within the retail home furnishings industry.

Vermont-based Hubbardton Forge won in the lighting category for its Formae Collection (lamp from collection pictured here), marking the second year in a row, and the fifth time in the company’s history, that it has earned this accolade.

Designed and manufactured by Vermont artisans, Formae products feature two gracefully linear arms that curve up and out to support mouth-blown glass diffusers in symmetrical harmony. Complementing the Formae’s slim profile, an oval shade sits over the glass tubes — falling slightly short and allowing a glimmer of accent light from the glass beneath. Each lamp is outfitted with a dimmer switch that is well integrated into the design of the lamp. The overall combination of glass, shade and dimmer switch provides adjustable, highly softened light.

The judges had the following to say about Hubbardton Forge’s 2009 Formae collection: “The visual appeal of this design is fully refined and well finished. It easily works in a variety of spaces, both as a floor and table lamp.”

Lighting was one of 15 categories for the awards this year, with others covering various aspects of the furniture industry, including tables, storage, youth furniture, casual dining, formal dining, upholstery, accessories, home office and bedroom, among other.

“Despite the continued slump in furniture retail sales, ASFD and the Pinnacle Committee were encouraged by the breadth of this year’s entries,” said Steve Hodges, ASFD President who presided the judging along with Christine Evans, Executive Director.
