22nd ARTS Awards Finalists Announced

The Dallas Market Center and the Accessories Resource Team (ART) recently announced the finalists for the 22nd Annual ARTS Awards, including two new categories – Green Manufacturer and Sales Representative for National/Key Accounts. The winners will be announced in January during the Dallas Total Home & Gift Market, which runs concurrently with the Dallas Intl. Lighting Market.

ART Executive Director Sharon Davis says ART is very excited to introduce the new Green award category to recognize environmentally-conscious companies in the industry.

“Many states have mandatory requirements for green building and building materials, so it was a good time to put it out and let people know that our industry is really committed to going green,” Davis says.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) is helping ART with the judging in this category. Susan Inglis, SFC Executive Director, says the judging criteria are being taken from the SFC’s list of best practices, which was created by a committee of industry members and representatives from the non-profit sector. The judging criteria will include evidence of a commitment to sustainability in the company’s philosophy as well as in the company’s business practices.

Inglis says she is optimistic about the effect this new award could have on the industry.

“[The ARTS Award] is such a prestigious award and ART is such a dynamic group that brings a lot of vibrance and excitement to our industry, and bringing that vibrance to this important issue is going to do a lot for this cause for this industry,” says Inglis. “A lot of people say it’s not easy being green, and that is true, but making your business green and communicating a green philosophy can be a lot of fun. It can lift spirits as well as your bottom line.”

Two lighting companies are finalists for the Green Manufacturer category – Corbett Lighting and Hubbardton Forge.

Nominations for the ARTS awards were taken from the industry at large via online ballots, with the top vote-getters becoming the finalists. Finalists now have to prepare and submit a presentation binder for judges to review, and manufacturers will submit a piece of product for inspection.

This year’s awards gala will take place on Jan. 22, 2011, in the Grand Pavilion at the Trade Mart. For tickets, contact Shonda Conner at (214) 744-7442 or sconner@mcmcmail.com. The Dallas Intl. Lighting Market runs Jan. 24-28, 2011
